Administrative History

The Christian Centre began in 1974 with a store front in the expanding mining community of Snow Lake, Manitoba. Day camps had been held in the area since 1970. The director of these camps in 1973 and 1974, Ken Neufeld, then moved to this community with his family and the store was opened in the autumn of 1974. The store, which sold religious material, was renovated and expanded for more congregational activities after 1976.

In 1979, the group was officially chartered as a congregation and joined the Manitoba Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches. In the summer of 1979, construction of a new church building began. This building was completed in 1980.

The membership stood at 16 in 1980, 24 in 2000, and 6 in 2010. The congregation has in many ways reflected the fortunes of a mining community with its activities, membership, and emphases.

The leaders of the congregation were Ken Neufeld (1974–1981), Jacob Balzer (1982), John Klassen (1983–1988), Neil Hiebert (1989–1992), interim Henry Regier (1993), Cornelius Plett (1994–2001), James D. Regehr (2001–2003).

Since 2003, the congregation has continued without paid staff.
