Administrative History
The National Capital Community Church in Ottawa, Ontario began services and formally organized on 18 November 1984. Ken Dyck is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through outreach by the Ontario Mennonite Brethren and Canadian Mennonite Brethren conferences. The congregation closed on 27 May 2001 after a congregational vote in February of that year.
The leaders of the congregation were: Ken Dyck (1984–1987), Arthur Dyck (1987–1988), Herman Plett (1988–1991), Howard Adams (interim 1991–1992), Nick Dyck (interim 1992–1993), Aaron Schmidt (interim 1993–1994), and Gerald Hildebrand (1994–2001).
Scope and Content
This fonds consists five series describing the life of this church. It includes information on church history and statement of faith, church membership files, testimonies, and transfers, statistical reports and strategic planning, committee meeting minutes and mission programs, and correspondence. This fonds documents well the Mennonite Brethren church planting in Ottawa in the 1980s.
Custodial History
Textual records received at the Centre for Mennonite Brethren Studies archives in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 2016. Materials were processed and described in 2017.
