Administrative History

The Gospel Light City Mission was begun in the 1950s. In 1960, the Manitoba Home Missions began a work in the core area of Winnipeg and in 1963 this group organized as the Logan Avenue MB Church on Logan Avenue. In 1965, they moved to Alexander Avenue and renamed themselves as the Salem Mennonite Brethren Church. The changing nature of the inner city residents has meant that methods and emphases have had to be flexible over the years but evangelistic outreach is still the main goal. In 2011, the church was renamed Salem Community Bible Church.

The leaders of the congregation were: John Schmidt (1950s), Louise and Rudie Willms (1960–1966), Jacob Balzer (1966–1968), Jake Schmidt (1968–1969), Lena and Arno Fast (1969–2020), Andy Rapko (2010– ).

The language of worship is English.
