Administrative History

The Neighborhood Life Group MB Church, located in The Pas, began in 1970 with the introduction of Christian Day Camps and Bible studies, initiated by the Home Missions Committee of the Manitoba Mennonite Brethren Church, with James Nikkel in charge. In 1971, the group began to have regular Friday night fellowships, had a Thanksgiving Banquet, family camp and a Sunday evening lounge worship. In 1972, the group organized and received membership with the Mennonite Brethren Church. The church opened a downtown storefront office which was called the Christian Center, and then later named the Thrift Shop. This project was to reach out to young people in the community. In 1974, the church decided to buy the bakery building next to the Center for their permanent location. In 1977, James Nikkel was asked to return to Winnipeg. Their first full time pastor was George Toews who had a different focus. Within a short time the outreach ministries were discontinued and the focus changed to disciple making and Christian nurture. The church closed its doors in 1992.

The leaders of the church included: James Nikkel (1970–1977), George Toews (1977–1981), Jim Totzke (1981–1984), Ernie Bergen (1985–1992).

The language of worship is English.
