Administrative History

The Dalmeny Community Church was originally called the Ebenezer MB Church and was located five miles north of the town of Dalmeny in northern Saskatchewan. The church is a member of the Canadian Conference of the Mennonite Brethren Churches, Rosthern District.

In 1901, settlers in the Dalmeny area began to meet in homes where they organized in September of that year with approximately 42 members. These early members were Mennonite Brethren people coming from Minnesota and Nebraska. In 1902, they completed a church building and, in 1907, due to an increase in membership, they erected a new building. The third building project was undertaken in 1945 when the church was remodelled and a full basement was put under the existing building. In 1952, the building was moved into the town of Dalmeny since many members lived there. A new sanctuary was built in 1968.

Abram Buhler was the first ordained minister of the Ebenezer Church. Jacob Lepp succeeded him as leader from 1907 to 1941. Lepp baptized 176 members during his ministry at Dalmeny. In 1921, fifty-two members were received into the church and, in 1945, after the Hooge campaign, thirty-five candidates were baptized.

Other church leaders include Henry Baerg (1941–1952), Nick Willems (1952–1954), George B. Dyck (1954–1960), A. Unruh (1961–1965), Ben Hoeppner (1965–1967), Sylvester Dirks (1967–1969), Peter Boschman (1969–1976), Ernest Lepp and Henry Bartsch (1976–1977), Rueben Dirks (1977–1980), Melvin Konkel (1980–1985), John Reimer (1985–1989), Rick McCorkindale (1989–1996), and Gary Sawatzky (1996–2015), Tony Martens (2016– ).

In 1987, the Ebenezer Mennonite Brethren Church changed its name to the Dalmeny Community Church. In 1997, the Dalmeny Community Church had a membership of 133.
